Go Bold Not Boring!

Light-colored walls don’t have to be boring! Think of it as a clean slate!  From chic to the thoroughly modern, a neutral space works with almost any style.

We can each express ourselves through our decorating choices and adding life to a room means bold accessories!

Start with the flooring and build the decor around it. Beginning with the floor gives you a chance to build a space piece by piece.  Accessorizing with bold colors such as orange, red and green will bring the room to life.  Incorporating colors using bedding, pillows, furniture and lamps will make the room dramatic and intriguing. Don’t forget to include different types of fabrics when adding pillows and window coverings.

How Lighting Affects Alzheimer’s

As America ages, the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s is becoming more prevalent. Research continues on both the cause and treatment of the condition, focusing on the best methods for increasing Alzheimer’s patient care and comfort.

In a recent article by Residential Lighting, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Lighting Research Center has done extensive research showing that abnormal sleep patterns in Alzheimer’s patients are frequently caused by inadequate lighting levels which increase agitation, depression and intensified disease progression.

Choose a Light Fixture that Goes With Your Home

There is a feeling of calm confidence that comes with having a place of your own, isn’t there? And we here at Quoizel think there is a feeling of order and satisfaction that comes from having the appropriate light fixture.  Here is how to choose a light fixture that compliments the architecture and interior design of your house.

Define the style of your existing architecture. Choose a term that describes that style, be it Mediterranean, English, French, contemporary, etc. Once you have found the right term, research online to get even more specific. (For example, styles of English architecture include Georgian, English country, Edwardian, etc.) Type in your specific search term to get specialized results.

  • Write down words that describe how your interior feels. Is it warm, calm, energetic, feminine, or masculine? What other words can you think of to describe your home?

  • Think of what purpose you need the light to serve. Do you need soft light to dine by or bright light to cook or clean by? Specify dimmers for almost every light in your house so you can change the mood of a space with lighting.
