Our Favorite Design Trends

It’s the beginning of 2014, and so many design trends are being talked about this year.  We chose a few of our favorites to highlight.

Viox Kitchen HiRes1Popularity of open layouts continue to grow.  Open plans promote interaction among family and guests, as walls are not a barrier.  With that, the kitchen continues to serve as the home’s “hub” while the rest of the home flows freely off the kitchen.

Mixing and matching furniture, colors, patterns, and design motifs are also seeing a rise in popularity. Most design magazines are showing saturated hues such as navy and plum in velvet, suede or corduroy and accessorizing with bold throw pillows, lamps and blankets.06intro_CKNA1470T

Armed with more availability and knowledge of design trends than ever before, consumers are taking bigger risks.   Harmonious colors don’t have to match, and the same goes for pattern finishes. Don’t be afraid to bring different colors, textures and finishes into your space.

03intro_ER353PNManufacturers of appliances, lighting and accessories are offering products with more softening finishes.  Matte finishes, industrial details, rounded edges in steel, brass and black are whats trending in 2014.  Not only can homeowners mix and match fabrics, but contractors are also receiving frequent requests for different metal finishes within the same area of the home.

Consumers are becoming increasingly educated on energy efficient appliances and lighting.  Many of Quoizel’s new introductions at this year’s January Market include energy efficient lighting such as the Platinum Ribbon Collection.

Hopefully, one of these trends will inspire you to get excited about your home decor.  Sometimes it is just the littlest things that can make a huge difference in how a room looks like a new table lamp, artwork or throw pillow.
